The Idea Behind Clive
Clive is a men's magazine geared toward guys 30 and older. I'm Jed, the writer behind the site. Thanks for reading.
What you'll find here is a mix of casual style, well-designed gear, and fascinating places worth the trip. You'll also find thoughts on what to watch, read, and listen to, along with the occasional vice.
Why the name Clive? Honestly, I don't really know. It has a sort of British sophistication to it, and it sounds sleek. When I started this project, it seemed fitting for a men's magazine. Still seems that way. I like it.
My goal with Clive is to publish deeper, more thoughtful articles. What I'm not doing is churning out shallow product reviews of things I've never used with the sole intention of making an affiliate commission.
These are a few guiding principles for this publication:
- I don't use AI to write.
- If I'm writing about a product or recommending one, it's because I genuinely believe in it, not because I want to sell it to you.
- I write about places I've personally traveled to. Occasionally, I will write about a place I would like to visit, and I'll make that clear in the article.
What do I mean by 'the anti-algorithm men's magazine'?
I'm in my early 40s and a few years ago, I stopped using social media. It started feeling like too much of my time was spent doomscrolling and consuming pre-programmed content. Mindless garbage, to be blunt.
With Clive, I take the opposite approach. There is no algorithm here. This is human curation for guys. I cover style, gear, travel, and anything else I find interesting and worthwhile. My goal is to write articles that are informative, entertaining, and smart without being too serious.
If you're looking for short-form, shallow content, you're in the wrong place.
So, that is what I mean by "the anti-algorithm men's magazine."
